two varieties of the mineral corundum. Their exceptional hardness
is surpassed only by diamonds. Red corundum is called ruby,
and all other colours are called sapphire.
Ruby
The red color in ruby is caused by trace amounts
of the element chromium. The best shade of red for ruby is often
given the name "pigeon blood red", but ruby can be
any shade of red up to almost pink.Ruby has acquired special
attributes from its admirers over the centuries. It has been
regarded as a symbol of freedom, charity, dignity and divine
power.

Sapphire
is not only a remarkably beautiful stone, it is also one of
the hardest and most durable gemstones in the world.
Sapphire
is found naturally in a variety of attractive colors. In the
Rare Collection we have used may of these color
variations.

Ceylon Sapphire
Ceylon Sapphire
is a light blue that is often said to "reflect the heavens".
It is September's birthstone and the symbol of sincerity and
faithfulness. It was found in Ceylon, which it is named after.
The unique soft blue of this Sapphire makes it an incredibly
desirable stone while still remaining a treasured classic.
